Ajimano Park
A Park with a Beautiful Japanese Garden, and Ties to Classical Poetry
Ajimano Park is known for its carefully landscaped Japanese garden, including a thatched-roof house, and its seasonal flowers that bloom throughout the year. This park was established to commemorate the local region’s connections to the Man’yoshu, Japan’s oldest collection of poetry.
Highlights include Japanese swamp lantern flowers that bloom in late March and early April, peonies in mid-April and early May, and water lilies throughout June. In November, the park draws visitors for its red maple leaves.
Signs at the park show poems from the Man’yoshu, such as a poem about ume plum blossoms posted near the ume trees.
