Genkuro Fujino Memorial Hall
A Memorial to International Friendship between Japan and China
The Genkuro Fujino Memorial Hall commemorates the lifelong connection between Fujino (1874–1945) and Lu Xun (1881–1936), and the international friendship that developed between Awara and Shaoxing, China. This museum features displays of various items that once belonged to Fujino, including medical instruments and personal letters.
During Fujino’s time as an anatomy professor at the Sendai School of Medicine, he became a mentor to Lu Xun, who went on to become the father of modern Chinese literature. Fujino later moved back to his hometown of Awara, to serve the community as a doctor. From 1933 to 1945, he lived with his wife in this house, which was converted into the Memorial Hall.
