Takefu Knife Village serves as a central base for the Echizen Blade industry. Visitors can learn about how knives are made, watch artisans at work, and shop from a wide selection of Echizen Blades. For visitors interested in making their own knives, the facility offers hands-on workshops: make paper knives, outdoor knives, and various kitchen knives, or to learn how to sharpen knives with a whetstone.

Takefu Knife Village was the result of many years of local effort. In the 1970s, young blade artisans began working to modernize their industry. In the 1980s, they developed the Takefu Knife Village brand, with iconic new knife designs. This helped revitalize the industry, and launch the Echizen Blades brand to international fame.
