Learn about a Key Player in Fukui’s Modernization

The Griffis Museum is dedicated to American educator William Elliott Griffis (1843–1928). Griffis led the modernization of Fukui’s schools, and wrote about his experiences living during an era of rapid change. The museum building is based on Griffis’s house here, which combined both Japanese and Western elements.
