Travel to Fukui
Fukui is just an hour or two by train from many major cities, including Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Kanazawa. Visitors arriving at Fukui Station are greeted by moving dinosaurs out front.
By Train
From Tokyo, take the Hokuriku or Tokaido Shinkansen Line, then transfer to a Limited Express train at Kanazawa or Maibara Station. From Osaka and Kyoto, Thunderbird Limited Express trains provide direct service. From Nagoya, Shirasagi Limited Express trains provide direct service, or take the Tokaido Shinkansen Line to Maibara Station, then transfer to a Shirasagi Limited Express train.
By Plane
The closest airport to Fukui is Komatsu Airport, in Ishikawa. Flights are available to and from Tokyo (Haneda), as well as Sapporo, Fukuoka, and Naha. A direct shuttle bus is available from Komatsu Airport to JR Fukui Station, which takes about an hour.
By Bus
Highway buses are available to Fukui every day, from cities such as Nagoya, Kyoto, and Osaka, and there are overnight buses for longer trips, from cities like Tokyo and Hiroshima. Please note that highway buses have reserved seating, so tickets must be purchased in advance.
By Car
Much of Fukui has fairly light road traffic, making a car a convenient way to get around. Car rentals are available at airports. At Chubu Centrair International Airport, visit the Access Plaza Information Counter. At Kansai International Airport, visit the Aero Plaza 1F Car Rental Counter. At Komatsu Airport, visit the 1F Car Rental Counter.
